Yorkshire alive with oppurtunity

News & Progress 13 November 2006

Thanks to the many people who helped out with the preparation of the land, the grass has now "struck" in spectacular fashion. This bodes well for us playing both football and cricket on the site next season as well as hosting Borrowby Show in July 2007.

In the next month or so we hope to complete the installation of the electricity and water supplies, although we are in the hands of NEDL and Yorkshire Water to complete this work.

Over the winter we will be working hard raising more funds for the remaining areas of the project - the Tennis Courts, the Scout and Community Sports Hall and the Children's Playground.

Funding for the Children's Playground received a kick-start with the a grant of £3,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales. Two applications to Awards for All are pending - one for a tractor and set of grass cutting equipment, the other for children's playground.

A further application is with the Local Network Fund with a decision expected this month. We hope to raise sufficient funds to install the first phase of the playground early next summer.

We have a funding application with the Foundation for Sports & the Arts which if successful will provide the majority of the funding for the three tennis courts.

Work on the Scout and Community Sports Hall is nearing the milestone of final drawings for the detailed planning application which will be submitted in parallel with tenders being issued for a Design & Build Contract for the building itself.

Anyone wishing to know further information, wanting to offer help with the playground or make a donation please contact Moray Finch on 537034 or Janet Peckitt on 537557
