Hillside Rural Activities Park continues to make progress.11 April 2005 Hillside Rural Activities Park (HRAP) has recently acquired the first half of the land on which it will be based. The team is working hard to secure the funds required for remaining land with a view to completing the purchase in September this year. Grants have already been received from Yorkshire Forward and from Hambleton District Council. The group have formed a Company Limited by Guarantee to oversee the project through the construction stage and then to run the facility on an ongoing basis as a not-for-profit charity. HRAP is centred around a number of local community groups including Leake Cricket Club, Leake Tennis Club, Knayton Football Club, Borrowby Show and Hillside Scouts Group. It is hoped that by working together the interests of each group will be preserved and opportunities for local residents will be enhanced over the coming years. Alan Peckitt, long standing chairman of the cricket club commented that “This is excellent news for Leake Cricket Club, it will allow the players to play on a properly prepared outfield for the first time in 30 years - until now we have had to share with sheep and rabbits alike! The improved facilities will be an asset for the youth of today and for generations to come.“ If you would like more information about the project, would like to help or become involved please contact either Janet Peckitt (01845 537557) or Moray Finch (01845 537034)
